Broken Ribs from Snowboarding.....healed. Shoulder Surgery from old Fire Dept Injury....can deal with it. Pulled Hip Muscle...still hurts like a &^* but I will lower my stride.Great run along Westchester Lagoon – Downtown Anchorage, Alaska Just got 100 miles logged - Nikeplus
Before Gas went to $4.50 a Gallon, I would spend almost all my time at Flat Top. Its a fantastic trail about 25 minutes outside of the city of Anchorage. It has endless trails for hiking, biking and running with birds-eye views of Downtown Anchorage and the Cook Inlet. There are bear and moose a plenty, so you have to keep your wits about ya. I’d bring pepper spray and in the 17 years I lived there, I only had to pull it out twice. Once on Margo's Loop and once right about where my bike was stuck on that fine spring day to your left. But, with the price of gasoline, I stuck to the coastal trail right downtown with the tourist's....all while training for a 2009 Marathon. My friends tell me I am not a "True Alaskan" because I don’t hunt (never owned a gun) don’t fish outside the city (I get my Kings at Ship Creek which was a walk away from my home), don’t own a Snowmobile, boat, trailer, truck.....well you get the picture. But I love to walk and hike! It’s the German in me I guess.
When I was a kid back home in Charleston I would walk or Roller Skate to the city often! Started when I was about 12 years old.
Never considered myself an Alaskan anyway. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great place, but I was there for the Job and not much more…well, except maybe the restaurants and trails. I am a Mountaineer and always will be.
